On 15 January 2013 the Chairman of BANZAT, Maria Stevens, announced the appointment of Paul Brown as the newest trustee of BANZAT. He succeeds Raeleen Smith who retired last year. Paul Brown is a lifetime user of braille who immigrated to New Zealand from Scotland about two years ago. In 2011 he passed the Trans-Tasman Unified English Braille Proficiency Certificate. Paul works as a disability programme advisor at Auckland Council.
BANZAT was delighted to receive three expressions of interest from individuals willing to serve as a trustee. The decision was a difficult one as the calibre of the individuals was very high. The trustees are very pleased there are high quality people committed to braille in New Zealand willing to serve on BANZAT.
